Q: Can this fan be installed without a down rod?

A: This fan need a min of 6" down rod to function right. With the uplights you need space between the light and ceiling.

Q: What size ceiling fan would fit a living room that is approx 14.5 ft x 13.5 ft

A: The reccommended size for a room that size is 42", but you can go bigger if you want you just don't need too to get good air flow.
